RAFFLESIA | Head Piece

The brief called for a wearable product inspired by a natural form. The main goal was to achieve color consistency through the whole process. I worked with the Rafflesia Arnoldi, a parasitic plant which shows itself only as a smelly flower while quietly spreading through its victim's vine. Its color and materials palette were developed inspired by the flower and used to design and fabricate a beautiful head piece.

A series of sketch models were done recreating some of the ideas from the ideation phase. Color distribution and materials were considered. Ultimately the goal was to recreate the overpowering feeling of a gigantic wearable piece.

Full size paper model from which a sewing pattern was done. The final model is the result of overlapping a series of petals that grow as they move from one side of the head of the other, finalizing in this giant petal piece that’s suppose to come back and embrace the user like a big scarf.
